National team concluded the European championship with two records and nine medals!

On December 7-14, European Weightlifting Youth Championship U-15-17 ended in Eilat, Israel. Approximately 498 athletes (228 girls and 270 boys) from 37 states participated in the competitions. The members of national team were also amid them.

Our representatives successfully performed earning 9 medals – 2 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze, including 3 large (1 gold, one silver and one bronze) and 6 small (1 gold, 2 silver and three bronze). In 76kg bodyweight category of the girl athletes U-15, Rahila Huseynova captured the silver in clean and jerk, while bronze in total, Elshan Mammadov-silver in snatch, bronze in clean and jerk, but gold in total amidst the boy’s U-15 61kg weight category, Nurlan Mammadzadeh gold in clean and jerk, silver in total in 73kg, however Rustam Gasimov (67kg) and Tarmenkhan Babayev (96kg) grabbed bronze medals among the boys U-17.

Elshan Mammadov and Nurlan Mammadzadeh set a new European records in their own weights in total and clean and jerk, respectively. Elshan Mammadov also distinguished in individual struggling. He took the 7th in the ranking of the best athlete in Europe with 341.1 points according to the Sinclair schedule in the absolute championship of boys U-15.

Athlete U-17 performed better as a team. This team, with a total of 558 points, managed to take the 4th place in the European Championship.
