A tournament in memory of national hero Fakhraddin Shahbazov was organized

On December 21, the XIX Weightlifting Tournament dedicated to National Hero Fakhraddin Shahbazov’s memory has been held in the competition hall of Shuvelan Weightlifting Academy. Athletes from the sport clubs of the capital and regions of Azerbaijan participated in the competitions, organized by the Baku City Youth and Sports Department and Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation. The aim of the tournament is to commemorate martyrs in the National Hero Fakhraddin Shahbazov’s personification, to promote Shahbazov’s timeline and his sport activities among athletes and youngsters, to develop and promote the sport of weightlifting, detect the most powerful athletes and increase their skill levels.

Ragif Abbasov, head of Baku City Youth and Sports Department, took part in the opening ceremony of competitions. He welcomed all and stated that this championship has been held for many years and organized at a high level. “We, together with the Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation and Azerbaijan Television, always pay attention to this competition and emphasize the importance of it. Fakhraddin Shahbazov had been a sample for young generation through his life and activities. Our objective is to preserve this heritage and to promote it through these competitions. ”

General Secretary of the Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation, Rizvan Rasulov, also took a floor. He also said that it is essential to remember the memory of national hero Fakhraddin Shahbazov with such competitions every year: “Athletes represent Azerbaijan in international arenas. It is vital to have a mass for their growing and training, and we can achieve this with such tournaments. As a federation, we do our best for this work, get maximum support, participate in the organization of competitions. We will continue this work after that”.

In conclusion, the wife of the national hero Nasiba Shahbazova was invited to the stage, where she was presented with commemorative medals and gifts. She, in turn, praised the regular and high-level organization of the competitions and thanked everyone who contributed.

The competitions were declared open and the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played.

As for the championship, athletes weighing 49 and 55 kg were first to board the platform. The gold medalists were Fuad Gadimov and Avaz Taghiyev with a total of 136kg (58+78) and 190kg (90+100) result, respectively. In the following bodyweight categories, the places were captured by Huseyn Azayev (61kg) with 160kg (70+90), Kamil Nabiyev (67kg) with 208kg (98+110), Novruz Mukhtarli (73kg) with 161kg (76+85), Janali Asadov (81kg) with 213kg (96+117), Yashar Mamayev (89kg) with 245kg (115+130) and Kanan Zamanov (96kg) with 216kg (96+120) result.

Mahammad Mammadli is the winner of the Championship!

Azerbaijan Weightlifting Championship, among youth under 20-23, started in the competition hall of AAAF Park Residential Complex, in Khirdalan. More than 100 athletes representing sport communities from all cities and villages of the country participate in the competition.

In the men struggle, the last winner of the day was determined in 62 kg weight category. Mahammad Mammadli was gold medalist with total 271 kg (123+148) result. Kenan Khalilov was silver medalist with total 251 kg (121+130), and showing 227 kg (100+127) result, Elmaddin Huseynov owned bronze medal.

The aim is to select the strong athletes, to teach and develop the sport of weightlifting in cities, towns and villages, to strengthen friendship relations between the athletes and coaches, to increase and improve the athletes’ skill level and to prepare for the following international competitions.

Fidan Abdurrahmanova: “My opponents were very strong”

Today is the last day of IV Islamic Solidarity Games weightlifting competitions to be held in Baku, on May 12-22. Women under 90 kg got on the platform on that day. One member of National team –Fidan Abdurrahmanova competed for medal. In snatch, Fidan lifted 60 kg and could lift 75 kg, in clean and jerk. She took the 7th place with total 135 kg (60+75) result.
After the competition, she shared her impressions with AAAF Tv: First of all, I would like to thank to my trainers, because they had a lot of efforts over me. In that competition, my opponents were very strong. I also performed well and was pleased with my results. I express my gratitude to my family as well”.

Islamic Games Weightlifting competitions to be held in Baku, on May 12-22, continue. Today, men in 94 kg weight category got on the platform. . In this weight category, Azerbaijan is represented by Nailkhan Nabiyev and Rovshan Fatullayev. In snatch, Rovshan Fatullayev lifted 165 kg and in clean and jerk, he lifted 211 kg. Showing total 376 kg (165+211) result, Rovshan was bronze medalist in this weight category. The medal was presented to him by the President of AZE WF Jahangir Askerov.
After the competition, Rovshan shared his impressions with AAAF Tv and thanked everyone: “ Owing to Tofig Heydarov, I prepared for İslamic Solidarity Games in AAAF Park Residential Complex. Indeed, after he came to the Federation, much work was done and the number of medals won increased. I also express my gratitude to the President of AZE WF- Jahangir Askerov . Today I saw him and was very proud. In the medal ceremony, he presented the medal to me and told me that, see you in Olympics. I would like to thank my trainer-Hafiz Suleymanov. My competitors were very strong. In this sequence, athletes from Uzbekistan and Iran. One of main competitor was the Egyptian athlete. Thankfully, I showed my strength and got my medal”.

Islamic Games Weightlifting competitions to be held in Baku, on May 12-22, continue. Today, women in 69 kg weight category got on the platform. In this weight category, Anastasia Ibrahimli competed, along with Fidan Huseynzade. In snatch, Anastasia lifted 100 kg and in clean and jerk, she lifted 119 kg. Showing total 219 kg (100+119) result, Anastasia Ibrahimli was gold medalist in this weight category.
In the history of Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation, Anastasia updated 1 record in snatch, 2 in clean and jerk, 2 in total and generally, 5 records in this weight category.
After the competition, she shared her joy with AAAF Tv:
“ The organization in Islamic Solidarity Games is great. I would like to thank the President of Azerbaijan Republic and the President of AZE WF. This medal is the result of me and my trainer’s effort. Thanks to God, I participated in the competition and won a medal. So I am very happy”.

Islamic Games Weightlifting competitions to be held in Baku, on May 12-22, continue. Today, women in 63 kg and 69 kg weight categories got on the platform. In this weight categories, our 2 women athletes won medals. Anastasia Ibrahimli was champion , Elnara Abbasova won bronze medal.
After the competition, Hafiz Süleymanov, the coach of National team, told AAAF TV that he was very happy with the success of our athletes: “During the competition I was more excited than Anastasia Ibrahimli. I’ve had the same feelings for being an athlete. Anastasia performed better than I expected. In short, we saw the fruits of our efforts.
I dedicate this gold medal to the President of Azerbaijan Republic-Ilham Aliev, the first Vice-President Mehriban Alieva, the President of AZE WF- Jahangir Askerov and the Vice-President of Federation-Tofig Heydarov. Hopefully, our victories will be sustainable. ”

IV Islamic Solidarity Games Weightlifting competitions continue in Weightlifting Academy, in Shuvelan. The President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Tomas Ajan visited to Baku to observe the progress of the tournament. The President of IWF gave a short interview to AAAF Tv and noted his satisfaction with the level of organization of competitions:
“ First of all , I would like to thank for the invitation. I am not first time in Azerbaijan. I have a lot of friends here. IWF wishes successes the athletes from different countries participated in Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games. I would like to tell that AZE WF is a very active Federation. The organization of these competitions is at a very high level. I am very satisfied with the work done. The competition hall and Weightlifting Academy are great. Azerbaijan and the capital Baku have also changed and are developing “.

In this weight category, Fidan Huseynzade competed, along with Anastasia Ibrahimli. In snatch, Fidan lifted 69 kg and in clean and jerk, she could lift 88 kg. She took the 7th place with total 157 kg (69+88) result.

“ Even if I did not win, my performance was good. I seriously prepared for this competition, but failed to win medal. I congratulate our National team’s athletes who win medals”.

Islamic Games Weightlifting competitions to be held in Baku, on May 12-22, continues. Today, women in 63 kg weight category got on the platform. Firuza Ibrahimova and Elnara Abbasova joined medal struggle in this weight category. In snatch, Elnara lifted 82 kg and in clean and jerk, she lifted 102 kg. She was bronze medalist with total 184 kg (82+102) result.
