In the competition, arranged with the cooperative organization of Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation, will be attended by approximately 100 athletes representing sport clubs and communities from all regions of the country.

The aim of the competition is the increasing and improving the athletes’ skill level, qualifying athletes who are technically trained and fulfilling their degree norms, determining the composition of National teams, preparing for the upcoming international competitions.

All weightlifting fans and media representatives are invited.

The athletes from Sumgait, Khirdalan, Gobustan, Shamakhi, Ismayilli and Baku competed in the competition hall of AAAF Park Residential Complex. About 100 weightlifters tested their power within 2 days.
The aim is to control the preparations of the athletes, to watch the substitutes, to select the strong athletes, to teach and develop the sport of weightlifting in cities, towns and villages, to strengthen friendship relations between the athletes and coaches, to increase and improve the athletes’ skill level.
During the selection competitions, the athletes representing Jalilabad, Neftchala, Lankaran, Lerik and Astara will compete in Lankaran, on July 5-6 and athletes from Goranboy, Ganja, Samukh, Gazakh, Shaki and Gakh will get on the platform in Samukh, on July 8-9.
The competition has personal character and the athletes who are at least 10 years old and technically prepared will be eligible to take part only. The weigh-in is at 9:00, on every competition day. Men and women born in 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999 and older in the zona tournament will compete in appropriate age groups and the winners will be determined in the Sinclair table. The selection competitions will be held in 3 zones, 4 times a year, according to the calendar schedule.

Competitions were held in Khirdalan, Lankaran and Samux. The athletes from Sumgait, Khirdalan, Gobustan, Shamaxi, Ismayilli and Baku (all sports associations) competed in Khirdalan, on April 01-02.  On April 05-06, the athletes representing Jalilabad, Neftchala, Lankaran, Lerik and Astara competed in Lankaran and athletes from Goranboy, Ganca, Samux, Kazakh, Shaki and Kakh got on the platform in Samukh, on April 08-09.

The selection competitions went through interesting struggles, that were attended by more than 400 atheletes. The winners were determined according to the Sinclair table, and awarders rewarded with medals and diplomas. The aim is to control the preparations of the athletes, to watch the substitutes, to select the strong athletes, to teach and develop the sport of weightlifting in cities, towns and villages, to strengthen friendship relations between the athletes and coaches, to increase and improve the athletes’ skill level.

Azerbaijan team will also compete for medals in this championship, in which will perform 445 athletes (197 girls and 248 boys) from about a hundred countries. Today, our two athletes got on the platform.

In B group, Elmaddin Huseynov and Ismayil Mammadov competed in 56 kg weight category. Ismayil Mammadov took the 3rd place in snatch with 94 kg result. In clean and jerk, Mammadov took the 11th place with 115kg result. Showing total 209 kg (94+115) result, he took 6th place in B group.

Elmaddin Huseynov took the 6th place in snatch with 94 kg result. In clean and jerk, Huseynov surpassed all his competitors with 125kg result. Showing total 219 kg (94+125) result, he took the 1st place in the overall rankings, in B group.

It should be emphasized that both of these athletes participated in the European Youth Championship held in Novy Tomisl, Poland, last year. It shows that there are positive changes in our athletes’ results. So, Ismayil Mammadov improved 35kg of his total 174 kg (81+93) result, Elmaddin Mammadov improved 25kg of his 194 kg (84+110) result.

The places taken in overall rankings by athletes in 56 kg weight category, will be known after the competitions in A group have finished.

Creating and updating the material – technical basis, the operating room, repair of buildings and other training halls, preparations , the creation of maximum favorable conditions for training are the fulfillment of the basic requirements. The Federation develops its work in this direction. Last month, we informed you about repairing of Gobustan hall. Now repair- restoration work was carried out in Surakhani Weightlifting Hall which is the most famous and oldest hall of country.

In the weightlifting hall of Children-Youth №1 Sport school of National “Education” Sports Centre which is on the balance of Azerbaijan Republic Education Ministry, located in Surakhani , a long-awaited repair works recently completed.  The wooden floors inside were renovated, the changing room, the walls and floors, and the sanitary junction were repaired and put into use.

This hall, which is one of the main weightlifting hall of Azerbaijan, works from the 50’s of last century. It was last repaired in 2000 by the initiative of the President of  Azerbaijan Republic and National Olympic Committee, Mr. Ilham Aliyev.  Once AWF  determined that this room need  repairing, the necessary efforts were made in a short period of time and  the young, junior  and older athletes can continue their training in a good condition in Surakhani.

The USSR Sports Master, Veteran  Coach, Honorary Worker of Physical Training and Sports Figure, International Technical Official- Vahid Nezerov, leads the training in Surakhani. Experienced specialist who trains new generation of weightlifters from 1980,  is satisfied with the work done here. Nezerov informed that, Afghan Bayramov, Soltan and Rizvan Kerimovs, Mehman Arzumanov, Elmar Sulatov, Zahid Nezerov, Hatip Hesenov, Nizami Pashayev, Hatip Hesenov, Allahyar Abishov, Nazim Mirzayev, Terane Abbasova and other well-known athletes trained , increased experience  and   prepared for Local and International Competitions in this hall. “The hall has a great value for Azerbaijan weightlifting. Many well-known athletes  came out here and achieved successes.

Our hall which was renovated in 2000  with the initiative of  President of Azerbaijan Republic and, National Olympic Committee, is again to attention. Accordingly, I thank to  Administration of Azerbaijan Weightlifting  Federation , especially to Vice- President- Tofig Heydarov. Work done in these days should be appreciated. Even though doping was a problem for a while, now the situation is improving.  I would like to thank the Federation for their repair – restoration work “.
